The love of Newport and food brought Paul, John and Karen together to form Benjamin"s Restaurant and Raw bar in 2007. Paul Boardman Ill, a native Newporter and graduate of Johnson and Wales Culinary School, worked at Benjamin's for over twenty years as a Bartender under the previous owner. John DeWitt, a Newbury College culinary grad and his wife Karen, a graduate of Newport's Salve Regina University, are from Fairfield, Connecticut but frequented Newport and Benjamin's Restaurant. When opportunity knocked to purchase the place, they all answered.
Today Benjamin's is a classic neighborhood gem serving fresh local seafood, lobster and raw bar, as well as prime rib and other traditional and non-traditional fare. Under the direction of our diverse kitchen staff, each with a unique talent, specials are created and updated daily to reflect seasonal changes in produce, fish, shellfish, meats and poultry. Our menu is designed to bring you the freshest quality ingredients everyday using local purveyors for shellfish, fish and lobster. Prime ribs are hand selected and cooked to perfection. Our team will continue to surprise you with creative menu items.
Benjamin's Restaurant and Raw Bar offers three floors of dining for your pleasure. The lower level seats 50 and has a casual vibe with street side views of Thames St, America's Cup Blvd, Newport Harbor and is host to our Raw Bar.. Our 300 plus bottle Grand Mariner Club is a perfect compliments to our award winning Raw Bar. The second floor is more upscale dining with a Newport Nautical atmosphere also hosting another dark wood & brass varnished bar. Attached is a gorgeous wooden outdoor covered deck with removable walls opening towards the harbor. These seats provide customers the ability to look out over the heart of downtown Newport and over the massive yachts in our harbor. Our third floor known as the "Crow's Nest" is an open air bar and dining room with snapshot views of the harbor. This floor can offer a more intimate quiet setting.
